03 - Kate Malvenan \ The fight of her life

Here’s the thing about Kate Malvenan – she is honestly unlike anyone I’ve ever met.

She’s brilliant, inspiring, empowering, her energy and enthusiasm for life is infectious – I was hanging off her every word and I could’ve sat and chatted to her for hours.

Kate was a celebrated film make up artist, before turning her focus to homewares with an exquisite shop on the Gold Coast called Maison and Maison.

She fell head over heels with the man she describes as the absolute love of her life, but not long after giving birth to their beautiful little girl Annabelle, she discovered her husband was using ice, his addiction eventually becoming so severe, she had no choice but to flee with her daughter.

Then, after experiencing strange body aches, eventually she was told she had terminal lung cancer, with just 6 - 24 months left to live.

But, as a solo mum, dying simply isn’t an option. Her little girl needs her.

So, for the last year, she’s dedicated her life to saving her life.

And that includes everything her doctors have described her here, in addition to regular trips to a clinic in Mexico, Hope 4 Cancer, which she credits with reducing her tumour by a staggering 75 per cent after just 3 weeks of treatment, shocking her doctors back home.

We laughed, we chatted, we cried. I feel like I’d known Kate my entire life. She's the word resilience personified, proof your mindset is everything, and has the most incredible advice for anyone going through a tough time,.

*** The day before this episode went live, Kate was told by her doctors in Mexico that there was NO trace of the cancer she was told would be taking her life just 12 months earlier. She'll be having this incredible news confirmed with her doctors here in the coming weeks.
